Along Cannery Row is the kelp forest canopy of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Kayakers get an up close look at this wonder of nature teeming with wildlife. You may be greeted by harbor seals swimming alongside you or resting sleepily on the rocks along the shore. Or you may be presented with a show by diving pelicans. Or you may see a raft of otters rolling and playing in the kelp. Each experience is unique and different! The remnants of the old canneries along Cannery Row are reminiscent of a time gone by and one can easily imagine the hustle and bustle that must have existed during the heyday of sardine fishing. One gets a new perspective of our beautiful coastline when looking back onto the land from the water.

There are two ways to enjoy a kayak on the bay — rentals or tours.  If you are looking for an interpretative experience, our guides will delight you with their knowledge and lore of the area as you paddle along.  Tours are 2 hours long and are offered daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  During the summer, we offer a twilight tour at 5 p.m. as well.  For a more independent adventure, we offer rentals — complete with instructions and orientation to the wildlife and, of course, all the gear!

Kayaks rentals and tours are available at our Cannery Row, Breakwater Cove and Lovers Point shops.   We open at 9:00 a.m. and close around sunset – but our schedule may change from season to season. Rentals are daily, per person rates, regardless of the type of boat you choose – single or tandem. You can keep the boat for as long as your energy lasts – or even come in and perhaps head back out later in the day. During the summer, special twilight rates are available.

We provide splash paddling suits to go on over your clothing or wetsuits if you prefer. Backrests are supplied for the tandem boats to make your paddling experience more comfortable and dry bags are also available so you can bring along your camera or valuables!

Reservations are not required, but are suggested. You can book on-line using our online reservation system!

Rentals:  $30.00 per person, all day rental. All kayak gear, paddling instruction and wildlife orientation included.

Tours:  $60.00 per person, from our Monterey locations.  All kayak gear and paddling instruction included.   

Stillwater Cove Kayak Tours:  $85.00 per person.  All kayak gear, paddling instruction and wildlife orientation included.
