For over 32 years, Adventures by the Sea has been providing visitors and locals the opportunity to discover Monterey by land and by sea! We have five locations throughout the Monterey Peninsula, and our shops offer the best locations to start your kayaking or biking adventures from because we are in the heart of the action! Whether you are seeking to spot otters or looking for the Recreational Trail, our shops are truly in the best locations. Don’t waste time getting there when you can start there!
We offer kayak and bike rentals and tours, family bike (or surrey) rentals, and standup paddle board rentals and lessons! Whatever your activity, we have the equipment for you! Come join us and let us get your adventure off to a great start!
Our Story
Adventures by the Sea began as just that – a love of Monterey Peninsula and the outdoors. Owned by Kyle and Liz Wareham, the company was founded in 1987 by the Knight family who grew the business for decades. Starting with six bikes on the back of a flatbed truck, Frank Knight delivered bikes around the peninsula so visitors could experience the beautiful coastline of the Monterey Peninsula. Bike rentals then evolved into bike tours and the location at Lovers Point in the quaint town of Pacific Grove was started with kayaking, surrey rentals, paddle boarding and beach activities. Later the main facility at 299 Cannery Row was started and followed by four more locations; downtown Monterey, another two location on Cannery Row and Stillwater Cove in Pebble Beach.
In 2018 the business was sold to Kyle and Liz Wareham. The Wareham’s have been on the Monterey Peninsula since 2006 and have a love for the outdoors. Liz and Kyle both worked in hospitality industry for over a decade with Pebble Beach Resorts and got to know the Knight family well over those years.
With continued enthusiasm for the outdoors, electric bicycles have been added to the fleet and have instantly became one of the most sought after activities allowing riders of all ability levels to experience the fabled coastline. In the fall of 2021, Adventures by the Sea expands again with opening their Family Super Center in the heart of Cannery Row at Steinbeck Plaza, poised to be one of the most family friendly locations for memories to be made for decades to come.
Kyle and Liz are active in community affairs and in the ecological preservation of the Monterey Bay area. Both are avid paddle boarders, bikers and enjoy camping with their daughter Harper.
